Kara Sawyer is a primary care nurse practitioner with Springfield Medical Associates in Enfield, CT. Kara was diagnosed with T cell leukemia/lymphoma in 2006. She went through treatment for four years after diagnosis, including surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and an allogenic stem cell transplant in January 2011. Her involvement in cancer survivorship began during her personal journey. She has fundraised for Team in Training (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) raising over $7,000 for the Nashville Marathon, which she ran in 2008 and the Boston Marathon in 2012.

She has also participated in local cancer survivor support services through Cancer Connection in Florence, MA and then as a blood cancer support group facilitator for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in the Natick, MA location. Kara has continued this work as co-facilitator for the Survivor Journeys Blood cancer support group in Enfield, CT. Kara is grateful to be a part of a growing, local organization that provides endless opportunities to meet and connect with cancer survivors, their families and caregivers.
